Class Teacher: Miss Knowles

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Ebbage (AM/PM) & Mrs Bebbington (AM)

Supported by Mrs Earlam every other Tuesday Morning for Art and DT

Welcome to the Lewis class page!

I hope you have had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the exciting Autumn term ahead of us.

PE Kits

PE is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.  However, the children ought to have their PE kit in school throughout the week.  We expect the children to wear trainers, white T-shirts and black shorts - please ensure these are labelled.  Long hair should be tied back for lessons.  We also recommend that the children are provided with tracksuits for outdoor lessons in cold weather conditions.

Water bottles, snack and school bags

Children are permitted to bring water bottles into school.  These should be kept by the sink in the classroom.  Please ensure that the bottles are taken home on a regular basis for washing.

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack in to eat during their morning break.

Children need to bring in their black bookbags, reading book and yellow diary every day.  Larger bags or rucksacks will not be needed unless they have a particular sport or club after school.

Reading

Listening to your child read at home is really beneficial, so your support is greatly appreciated.  We encourage children to read a range of genres, but also to read texts which they find interesting.  Please record any reading the children do at home in their yellow Reading Record books.  These books should be kept in their bookbags.

Homework

A homework information sheet will be sent home every Thursday.  The tasks set will heavily relate to the learning done in class.

  • Spellings:     The children will be given 10 spellings to learn every week in order to prepare for a test on the following Thursday.  Usually, the words tested will follow a common rule. These can also be accessed via https://www.spellingshed.com/
  • Punctuation and Grammar:        The children will be given a booklet for punctuation and a booklet for grammar.  We will alternate between the two booklets.  Tasks from focussed page/ pages will be set each week.  Children are not expected to spend longer than 30 minutes on the set activities.  Completed tasks should be returned by the following Wednesday.
  • Times Tables:       TT Rockstars allows your child to test their times table ability against the clock in studio mode or practice following this weeks teacher set activity. The teacher set activity will set a different combination of times tables to focus on building your child's confidence and ability in time for the Time Table test this coming year.  You can log in via https://ttrockstars.com/ or by downloading the app.
  • If your child experiences any difficulty with the homework, then please encourage him/her to speak to their teacher at the next opportunity. It is also worth noting that your child's login for both Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars have been stuck in their diaries.

Residential Visit

We will be enjoying our residential visit to Castleton in the Peak District.  The children will participate in cave explorations, orienteering and art activities- there will be more information to follow.
