Year 1 & 2 (Potter) 2019 - 2020

Miss Rigg

Welcome to the Potter class page! Here you will find important information about our class.

Miss Rigg is the class teacher. Potter class will also have Mrs Latham supporting their learning this year (Monday-Thursday mornings).

Mrs Earlam will teach Potter class on a Thursday morning and she has a variety of exciting Art and DT activities planned.

Reading

The children will continue to bring school reading books home, along with a reading diary. This will include a non-fiction text to further support your child's understanding of and breadth of vocabulary. Daily reading at home with your child will really support their skills. Please sign and comment in your child’s diary and ensure it is in school each day. This means that we can continue to monitor your child’s progress and support them on their reading journey. Each time your child reads at home, they will continue to work towards achieving special reading certificates. Please remember home reading does not only include school reading books - encouraging children to read a selection of different text types, including comics, magazines, leaflets, non-fiction books will help to develop breadth and variety in their reading. Miss Rigg is excited to see how many certificates Potter class can receive this year!

To further support your child's comprehension skills, please ask a range of questions from the back of your child's reading bookmark and record this in their reading diary.

If you would like to discuss your child’s reading or strategies to support them at home, please don’t hesitate to speak to Miss Rigg or Mrs Latham.

PE

Potter class PE sessions are on Friday afternoon. Children should wear white or black shorts with a white t-shirt and black pumps. Children can also bring trainers for outdoor activities. For colder weather, please ensure your child has black leggings or jogging bottoms and either a black or royal blue jumper. These can be worn for outdoor sessions (weather permitting). School hoodies are now available to purchase on the school uniform website. All clothing items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Jewellery should not be worn in school. This is especially important for PE.
Please ensure that if your child has long hair it is tied back for PE.

PE kits should remain in school until they are sent home for a wash at the end of each half term!

Snack

In Year 1 and 2, the children have access to fruit at snack time. Alternatively, they can bring a healthy snack from home. As we have children with nut allergies in school, please ensure that snacks from home are nut free.

Children will continue to have access to water throughout the day.

Water bottles

Children are allowed to bring water bottles into school. These can be kept in the crate by the sink so that they are easily accessible throughout the day. Please ensure that water bottles are named, and are taken home each day for washing.

Helping at School
We are always very grateful for any additional help that parents or other family members can volunteer. If you are able to help out on a regular basis, or just as a one off, please speak to Miss Rigg or Mrs Latham. We will be delighted to arrange this.

If you have any questions or queries at all, please don't hesitate to get in touch, either in person at the beginning or end of the school day or by email: (Nicola.rigg@tarvin.cheshire.sch.uk).

Many thanks,

Miss N. Rigg
